2006 NEWS UPDATE

Our Glitz and Glitter
Dinner Dance was a great success |
• Anna Wormleighton’s super cabaret
• A great Jazz Band…
• Shimmering silver drapes, elegant lilies, a revolving glitter ball…
• Delicious food and a bar we didn’t have to run ourselves…
• And yes, the Cha-cha de Châtelaillon! A member called me on Sunday morning
and said: “I don’t know how you do it, but it gets better every year. We
can’t wait for the next one!” My only regret? Our photographs of Anna didn’t
come out, so if any of you have some you could e-mail to me on
bandj.hall@ntlworld.com I’d be
most grateful. |

 |
Many thanks to all of you who helped in
any way, especially those non-committee members who turned up on Sunday
morning to clear up the hall with us! |

Dates for your diary.
Our Sunday lunch and
AGM will be held on February 4th 2007 at 11.45 in
Knebworth Barns. Tickets for the two course lunch with coffee will cost
£15.50 for members and £18.50 for non-members. A welcome drink will be
provided by the Association to thank you for your support. Please see the
menu attached and let me have your choices. Membership renewal is due, the
cost is the same as it has been for many years, just £5 per family per year,
and it entitles you to members’ discounts at our events – a real bargain!
Can you help? Sadly, one of our committee members will be standing
down at the AGM. We would welcome any offers of a replacement. If you are
interested, please let me know. You are welcome to come along to the next
committee meeting on Monday, January 15th and see what you’d be letting
yourself in for! |

Visit to Knebworth.
Please note that the original date has been changed because of the French
Presidential elections. A group from Châtelaillon will visit Knebworth,
arriving at Stansted at 18.40 on Friday 27th April and leaving on the
15.20 flight on Tuesday 1st May. We are planning a reception in
Trinity Hall on the Friday, a visit to Kew Gardens on the Saturday and an
evening party at the Village Hall on Sunday 29th on the theme of Merrie
England and St George! Lord Cobbold is kindly organising a visit to the
House of Lords at 11.00am on the Monday. A number of our members have had
requests for accommodation from their French friends. Please let me know if
you have already agreed to host a particular family.
A special request! One family would like to bring their 21 year old
daughter, who would prefer to stay in a home with another young person,
rather than with her parents. Please let me know if you have any contacts
with family of the right age, who would be willing to accommodate her.

Sporting Links for 2007.
• Football. It is planned that a group of young French footballers will come
to play in Knebworth. Thanks to Steve Cook for being our link in this.
• Tennis. It is hoped that a party from Knebworth Tennis Club will go to
play in Châtel.
• Golf. It is planned that a group of 6-7 French golfers will come to play
in Knebworth.
• Datchworth School and Knebworth Schools Link. We are hoping to strengthen
links between these local schools and two Junior schools in Châtel. |
|
KTA will again be sponsoring
an event in the Knebworth Festival:
Thursday, June 28th. After his very popular talk on Lutyens in 2004,
Dr Mervyn Miller will be returning to Knebworth to speak about the
Garden City Movement, relating plans for Knebworth Garden Village to
what happened in Letchworth and Welwyn Garden Cities.
Saturday, November 24th
We have booked the Village Hall – and are discussing what type of event to
put on. Watch this space! |
|
Best wishes,
Joy Hall, Chairman.
