Event organisers are advised to be particularly vigilant in Knebworth. Someone is taking advantage of these to walk in and grab what money they can. Trinity Church and the Village Hall have both been targeted very recently.

KNEBWORTH FESTIVAL PREPARATIONS

Brian Worthington has been actively engaged in organising this year's FestivalKnebworth Festival and he says that plans are well under way. The Festival is taking shape and attached is a copy of the latest programme.

Derek Harrison is running a campaign to enlist more singers to the CommunityChorus to take part in the summer picnic concert, in the gardens of Knebworth House, for the finale of Knebworth Festival on June 29th.

Knebworth Day Centre Volunteers:
The Day Centre meets once a week on a Monday to provide a safe meeting place for the socially isolated and frail elderly in the village. The Day Centre is run by volunteers and they are currently seeking a cook, drivers and a first aider. If you would like to know more about what is involved contact the volunteer Manager, Angela Skinner on 07968 698856.

PANOS KOUDOUNAS

Panos Koudounas:
Panos was well-known and much-loved around the village and our hearts go out to his family following his unexpected death. The funeral service at St. Martin’s Church was overseen by Rev’d. Jim Pye, who took time out from his extended study leave to conduct the service, with additional input from Fr. Damianos of the Greek Orthodox church.

DATES FOR YOUR CALENDAR

Knebworth Twinning Association - Boules Practice and Social:
Every Monday evening until further notice. Join Carole and David Woodman at the Station Pub between 18:00 and 19:30 for Boules practice, a chat and some fun. The KTA has a trophy to defend so need all the help they can get.

Car Boot Sale:
Waste Not Want Not – the garden centre which lovingly nurtures reject plants back to health and sells them on to you – has relocated to a field off the B197 just before Knebworth turns into Stevenage. They are holding a Car Boot Sale this Sunday May 25 from 10am. Stallholders can come from 9am. Not unnaturally, you won’t be able to sell plants, though. Farmers’ and Craft Market:
Sunday May 25th is the fourth of the month, so you also have a shopping opportunity from 9am – 12noon in Woolmer Green Village Hall, off Bridge Road, which is oiff the B197 in the opposite direction. Locally produced food and crafts will be on sale there.

Dino Adventures at Knebworth House:
Sunday, May 25th, seems to be your opportunity for all the Bank Holiday Week-end fun. Up at Knebworth House, Gardens, Park and Dinosaur Trail, the Ventura Wildlife intrepid explorers are brining various reptiles for visitors to handle. Children can also be palaeontologists for the day and complete a special dinosaur trail to claim a price. Quiz sheets £1. Normal Park admission prices apply and opening times are 11am-5pm.

Quizzically speaking:
The Royal British Legion in Gun Lane has a Quiz Night on this week-end. No prices for answering the question ‘What day is it on?’ correctly. Yes, you’ve guessed it, Sunday May 25th, 7.30pm, teams of four, £1 a head, cash prizes.

Sunday 25th May, 1-5pm
Preston Village GardensA large number of gardens in this pretty village 3 miles south of Hitchin, offer a variety of sizes, styles and planting with many interesting details including unusual plants, wild areas and water features. The small Arts and Crafts church of St Martin will be beautifully decorated and open to visitors. Stalls on the Green and Teas in the Village Hall. Also Barbeque on the Green from 12 noon. Africa Fun Day:
Half Term fun is on offer at St. Martin’s Church in the heart of the village. The fun Day runs from 10am – 2pm in the Church and Parish Centre on Wednesday May 28th. A bouncy castle, reptiles and lots of stalls and fun events will be on offer, to give fun for all the family. All more than welcome. Funds raised will go towards the Gibb family’s mission trip to Kadoma in Zimbabwe in September.

REGULAR EXERCISE

The Knebworth Walking Group continues its fortnightly rambles on Tuesday mornings, meeting at 10am in the Village Hall Car Park. There is a weekly fitness and toning class in the Village Hall on Tuesdays from 6.30-7.30pm.  On Fridays in the Village Hall there are two opportunities to get active. Keep Fit runs every Friday morning from 9.30-10.30am and the Active Together for 50+ group get going from 1-3pm.

KNEBWORTH RUNNERS NETWORK

Liz Kirby and her friend started running training in January 2011 in preparation for a 10k charity run. Mow they are fitter than ever and totally hooked on the buzz they get from running; so much so that they decided to look for a local running club. Then it occurred to them, why drive to a running club when there are lots of beautiful running routes around Knebworth?

If you are interested in helping create or join a Knebworth runners' network, please contact Liz at lizkirby63@gmail.com. It doesn't matter what your motivation is - competition, getting fitter or simply becoming better acquainted with your fellow villagers.

OVER 65'S

A multi- activity group for over 65’s is restarting in Knebworth and is Herts Sports Partnershipproviding local residents with the chance to try gentle and seated exercises, table tennis, badminton, new age bowls, indoor curling and even some local health walks. The classes are part of an initiative from Herts Sports Partnership called Active Together, designed to offer enjoyable activities in a relaxed and sociable atmosphere. The two hour sessions take place at Knebworth Village Hall every Friday at 1pm and each class costs just £2.50....more
