Thanks to Michael Tomlinson who wrote us about Saturdays Grand National Race this year and its significant link with Knebworth.

"As members of Knebworth twinning with Chatellaillon will have already realised. The winner Pineau de Re, is named after the local wine Pineau (which includes an added 2% Cognac) and the island of Ile de re, to which we the Knebworth Twinning visitors to Chatellaillon have all been taken. Ile de Re has an inlet called St. Martins. In addition Professor David Newland, father of the trainer Dr Richard Newland, grew up in Watton Road, Knebworth and attended local schools"

The new clubhouse was opened in front of over 50 intrepid club members braving the wind and the showers by Stephen McPartland MP and other invited specially invited guests from the Parish, NDHC and the County who have helped the club tremendously.

Cutting RibbonStephen opened the clubhouse during an afternoon of celebration which started with a members lunch and later the courts were filled by players of all ages - juniors to some of the clubs senior members - in an exhibition of tennis.

After the cutting of the ribbon Stephen judged the Junior Logo Design competition (won by Dylan Nimmo) to find a logo to adorn the club's junior members shirts. This was followed by lots of tea and cake and as the weather brightened up in the late afternoon the courts were full with members doing what they do best, playing tennis.

With delightful Vintage Tea-room

PS ARTS is an Art and photography gallery with a delightful Vintage Tea room. They offer workshops, exhibitions, photo shoots, life drawing and art PS Artsclasses.   Housed in a converted barn, PS Arts is situated in Datchworth, Hertfordshire, surrounded by fields, an ancient blue bell forest and a small lake.

Sharon Struckman, gallery owner says “It’s a wonderfully eclectic place where creative people can source information, network with others and showcase their work”.  Thursday’s between 10 – 4, the gallery hosts an open day for artists to come together, get creative and network.

Special CakePeanut BrownieHoused within PS Arts is “We R Cakes” Vintage tea room.  It’s like stepping back in time for a cup of the best! Sarah serves traditional English tea within a gorgeous 1940’s tearoom that oozes vintage style. So pop over and enjoy a proper cuppa with one of Sarah’s scrummy cupcakes, cake and cream teas.  Sarah’s homemade cakes and cupcakes taste just how proper sweet treats should!  She also caters for vegan, and makes delicious gluten & dairy free cakes.

All the tea sets they use are vintage china sourced from around the UK and they have a great selection of beautiful designs which date from the 1920s onwards. All items are mismatched rather than a single design, making an interesting and colourful display.

In April they are expanding.  MWB bespoke will be taking over the adjoining barn, where Melinda Walsh Baines will open her handmade curtains, blinds, bespoke soft furnishing and re-upholstery upcycling business.  She loves to share her years of experience in interior design and practical upcycling. In May, you will be able to visit their amazing upcycled garden.

Please pop over for a visit.

Liz Kirby and her friend started running training in January 2011 in preparation for a 10k charity run. Mow they are fitter than ever and totally hooked on the buzz they get from running; so much so that they decided to look for a local running club. Then it occurred to them, why drive to a running club when there are lots of beautiful running routes around Knebworth?

If you are interested in helping create or join a Knebworth runners' network, please contact Liz at lizkirby63@gmail.com. It doesn't matter what your motivation is - competition, getting fitter or simply becoming better acquainted with your fellow villagers.
