If you want to hire a venue for a wedding party, conference or any large social gathering, you should take a look at the "Venues for Hire" listing in the Commercial Services, Shops & Businesses section under the Directories drop down menu along the top of every page. Boys and girls come out to play:
Barleyfield Children's Centre has joined forces with North Herts. District Council Rangers to give children aged 0 - 11 the opportunity to play safely in Knebworth recreation ground. The remaining sessions are on Mondays August 12 and 19 and Wednesdays August 9 and 16 (under-5s need to be accompanied). The entrances to the recreation ground are off Stevenage and Watton Roads. 

Windmills on your mind:
The next Knebworth Ramble is on Tuesday August 13. Led by Viv Perry, the group will explore the countryside around Cromer Windmill. The windmill itself will be specially opened for the group by Viv as she is a guide there. There is also an opportunity to picnic in the field nearby. Meet at Knebworth Village Hall car park at 10am.

Good Egg Club join the Space Academy:
The Knebworth Family of Churches are now taking bookings for their Summer Holiday Club. The Club fast-forwards Daniel (famous for being in the lions' den) and his friends, imagining what it would be like if they were trainee astronauts in the Space Academy. It runs from August 13-15 from 10am-12noon in Trinity Church. Deadline for receipt of bookings is July 14th.

Wednesday walk:
Kathie Painter's Wednesday outing on August 14, sets out from the George and Dragon at Graveley at 6.15pm. Dogs welcome (but must be accompanied by an owner). For details contact Kathie on 01438 940594.

Pride and Prejudice:
Chapterhouse Theatre Company return to Knebworth House next Friday August 16 for another open air performance of a much-loved classic. This time it's the turn of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. The performance takes place at 7pm, tickets are £13.50 adult, £9 child, £40 family. Book online at www.knebworthhouse.com or call 01438 810931.

You really must come for coffee:
Knebworth Family of Churches' monthly coffee morning in St. Martin's Parish Centre is open to all. And it's another thing which doesn't close during the summer holidays - hurrah! Join them for coffee, tea, chat, home-made cake and the opportunity to buy fairly traded foods on Saturday August 17 from 10am-12noon.

The Knebworth Walking Group continues its fortnightly rambles on Tuesday mornings, meeting at 10am in the Village Hall Car Park. There is a weekly fitness and toning class in the Village Hall on Tuesdays from 6.30-7.30pm.  On Fridays in the Village Hall there are two opportunities to get active. Keep Fit runs every Friday morning from 9.30-10.30am and the Active Together for 50+ group get going from 1-3pm.

Liz Kirby and her friend started running training in January 2011 in preparation for a 10k charity run. Mow they are fitter than ever and totally hooked on the buzz they get from running; so much so that they decided to look for a local running club. Then it occurred to them, why drive to a running club when there are lots of beautiful running routes around Knebworth?

If you are interested in helping create or join a Knebworth runners' network, please contact Liz at lizkirby63@gmail.com. It doesn't matter what your motivation is - competition, getting fitter or simply becoming better acquainted with your fellow villagers.


A multi- activity group for over 65’s is restarting in Knebworth and is Herts Sports Partnershipproviding local residents with the chance to try gentle and seated exercises, table tennis, badminton, new age bowls, indoor curling and even some local health walks. The classes are part of an initiative from Herts Sports Partnership called Active Together, designed to offer enjoyable activities in a relaxed and sociable atmosphere. The two hour sessions take place at Knebworth Village Hall every Friday at 1pm and each class costs just £2.50....more
