GREAT FESTIVAL SUCCESS

Stepping Stone - Burgers & Bangers:
A wonderful effort by the supporters of Stepping Stones Pre-School was made on Saturday, at the Knebworth Village Festival. There was a team of dedicated workers, barbequing away to satisfy hundreds of hungry festival goers, with all the profits going to Stepping Stones Pre-School charity. Paul, of Trussell's the Butcher, supplied all the meat and the barbeque cooking team consisted of Paul's son George Elleston, Peter Grainger and Alex, a parent of a Stepping Stone's pupil. Other parents beavered away all afternoon taking the money and serving the food. The afternoon was a great success, with somewhere between 700 and 800 units of hot food being served up.

Festival Fun
Many thanks to all who contributed in any way to the Knebworth Festival last week-end. The Fun Day in particular was a huge success with something for absolutely everyone, and packed all day from the Family picnic lunch to the Family Barn Dance barbecue. Have a go sports, live music from young musicians, fundraising stalls for local organisations and all the fun of the fair all added to the mix in between. George Hamilton IV took time out in his busy schedule to worship in St. Martin's and play for the congregation in advance of his concert in Knebworth House on Sunday evening. The superb photographic exhibition in St. Martin's by local photographer Mark Bryan of A2zoom Photography finished on Sunday afternoon at the Festival Songs of Praise. Mark explained to the congregation how he used local 'models' for the exhibition. Entitled Trading Places, the photographic portraits show people posing in their 'working clothes'. They include Christopher the Optician, Robin the Paper Boy, Dale the postman and Jim the Rector. What shone out in the photographs was the pride people took in doing what the job they loved and doing it well right where they lived. A retiring collection after the Service raised over £100 for Knebworth Youth Project.

CAN YOU HELP?

Do You Know Private W Humphrey?
Or, to be strictly accurate, do you know who he was? John Williams has embarked on a project to write a mini-biography for each of the names on Knebworth's War Memorial. Private W. Humphrey, a First World War casualty, is the only name whose link with the village John has been unable to trace. If you think you have any information contact John on 01438 811657, smedalsJ@aol.com.

Get Involved In An Exciting Community Theatre Project:
To celebrate the 300th anniversary of the trial for witchcraft of Jane Wenham of Walkern, new theatre company Pins & Feathers Productions is presenting 'The Last Witch' in June at the Hertford Theatre Studio and Walkern Hall. KNEBWORTH RUNNERS NETWORK

Liz Kirby and her friend started running training in January 2011 in preparation for a 10k charity run. Mow they are fitter than ever and totally hooked on the buzz they get from running; so much so that they decided to look for a local running club. Then it occurred to them, why drive to a running club when there are lots of beautiful running routes around Knebworth?

If you are interested in helping create or join a Knebworth runners' network, please contact Liz at lizkirby63@gmail.com. It doesn't matter what your motivation is - competition, getting fitter or simply becoming better acquainted with your fellow villagers.
