RAMBLING AROUND KNEBWORTH

If the village seems a little quieter this wee-end, it's probably because the Knebworth Junior footballers have been invited to play a tournament in our French twin, Châtelaillon Plage over 11-13 June.

Rambling Festival Fun:
Next Tuesday June 14th the Knebworth Walking Group invite us to get into shape for the Festival Fun to come with a ramble led by Joy and Barry Hall. Meet in the Village Hall Car Park at 10am. All welcome, including well-behaved dogs on leads. On Sunday June 19th the Festival Ramble will be led by Kathie Painter of the Walking Group. It's a morning walk of about 3-4 miles. Meet at the Station Pub at 11am. The Station Pub will be delighted to serve you up your Sunday lunch when you get back, just order them before you set out....more

NO SITE AVAILABLE FOR NEW KNEBWORTH SCHOOL

The "We Need A School" campaign is to be scaled down as no suitable site is available.

The We Need A School team has been campaigning since 2009 for a new secondary free school to serve children in the Hertfordshire villages of Knebworth, Woolmer Green, Codicote, Oaklands and Datchworth. We submitted our Outline Business Case to support our proposal in April 2011. Unfortunately, the Department for Education has decided it cannot approve our application at this time, largely because of the difficulties involved in finding a suitable site to host the school....more

KNEBWORTH HOUSE ROCK FESTIVAL

Knebworth area residents can see the layout of the rock spectacular, to be held in the grounds of Knebworth House stately home from Friday, July 8 to Sunday, July 10. The Knebworth site plan is similar to last year, with the Apollo and Saturn arena stages in the same positions as 2010, although the Strongbow Bowtime Bar has gone.

Bands will start on the main Apollo stage on the Friday around 3pm, with Diamond Head first up followed by thrash metal’s Big 4 of Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer and Metallica....Welwyn Times for more

CONGRATULATIONS TO HANNAH BROOKES

"Hannah Brookes really is aged 9 and she is a fine, lively artist" That's the verdict of judge Caroline McCaffrey from Hertfordshire Community Foundation, sponsors of the CPRE Hertfordshire Village of the Year Children's Poster Competition. Hannah, of Knebworth School, beat off competition from over 800 entries from 19 schools with her winning poster design on the theme 'A Village Wedding'. Hannah's poster will be sent to all villages entering the Village of the Year competition and all nine winning posters will be on display at the Village of the Year Awards Evening on 30 June in County Hall. Knebworth School receives £100 to spend on art supplies....more

MULTI ACTIVITY EXERCISE GROUP FOR OVER 65s

A multi- activity group for over 65’s is restarting in Knebworth and is Herts Sports Partnershipproviding local residents with the chance to try gentle and seated exercises, table tennis, badminton, new age bowls, indoor curling and even some local health walks. The classes are part of an initiative from Herts Sports Partnership called Active Together, designed to offer enjoyable activities in a relaxed and sociable atmosphere. The two hour sessions take place at Knebworth Village Hall every Friday at 1pm and each class costs just £2.50....more
