Organised by CPRE Hertfordshire
Last year we were invited to represent Knebworth Parish Council at the award ceremony when Woolmer Green became the Village of the Year for the second year running. Naturally, our thoughts turned to why Knebworth hadn’t entered the competition and – you’ve guessed it! - we somehow found ourselves putting together an application for Knebworth to have a go in 2010.
We invited you to send us material for the four categories to be covered:
• Environment
• Business
• People
• Communications
You sent us maps and photographs, lists and descriptions. We filled in over 50 pages of answers to the very detailed questions. The more you told us about the village, the more we were convinced that this is
a GREAT PLACE to live! So much so, that when I had to sum up ‘What Makes My Village Special’ in 500 words, I had real difficulty keeping within that limit. (See the next page). Finally we submitted the required 5 copies of Knebworth’s entry in April this year.
So now what?
Well this is where YOU come in!!
On Tuesday, June 15th at 9.30 am three judges will be visiting the village to see a presentation and meet some of the villagers. They will be looking around, maybe checking that we were not exaggerating when we told them what is good about living here. We hope you will want to make sure they get the best impression ever! If you spot any litter could you tidy it up, please?
Could you check that your garden and immediate area are looking at their best?
(Which reminds us, we really must get out and dig up those dandelions in our front garden as soon as this copy has gone into the magazine….)
Results will be announced in County Hall, Hertford, on Thursday July 1st and awards presented on Saturday July 24th.
So come on, Knebworth, think how great it would be if the photograph of the winners could be of YOUR VILLAGE this time! Fingers crossed! |
