Parish Council Elections
As only nine people were nominated for election to the 12 member Parish Council, there will be no need for an election on this occasion; the remaining three places will be filled when the press gang have scoured the village for suitable candidates to co-opt in. So don't go out at night alone. If you are interested in becoming a Parish Councillor, please contact Claire Graham by email with some information about yourself.

This is a good opportunity to say goodbye and our sincerest thanks to retiring Councillors Ian Gilmore, who served for 20 years, to Robin and Carol Smith, who served for 17 and eight years respectively, along with Richard Haigh who hasn't been a Councillor for long, but pressure from new working arrangements prevent him from attending meetings. We wish them all well and will miss there valuable contributions to Parish business.

Broken Glass Danger
People with toddlers, or walking dogs, should be aware that following vandalism last month, reportedly by a large crowd of youths, in the Knebworth Recreation grounds, a huge amount of broken glass was left on the western side of the main soccer pitch, the footpath nearby and around the pavilion. The groundsman has attempted to clear away the broken glass and rubbish, but there may be some shards he has not seen. More damage was done to the rear garden gates of two Stevenage Road houses and the tennis hut. Tennis balls were taken and the tennis net placed into the plastic liner of an uprooted waste bin and set alight, damaging the asphalt of the Multi Use Game Area which is now dangerous to play on and has to be patched. Glass was also found in the under 5s play area and more rubbish by the youth shelter.

Perhaps one of our readers has a teenager who has suddenly appeared with several new tennis balls and, hopefully, several burned fingers who can't explain why and where?

2010

We have started a new READERS' LETTERS section where you can air your opinions and grievances for others to comment on. There is no restriction on subject matter, that is up to the writer. Any local subject that develops an ongoing interest, such as a New School or Doctors Surgery, will be separated into it's own category.

Letters and comments will be edited for decency and suitability. Letters and comments will be published at the Editor's discretion.
